WINEMAKER'S COMMENTS
High Sands Grenache is the pinnacle of our estate. Reaching deep within the sandy soil, our prized 1946 old vines produce wines that balance intense power and complexity with fragrance and beauty.

AROMA
Perfumed, powerful and pristine with vibrant red berry fruit.

PALATE
Cherries, rose petal, clove, white spice, pomegranate seeds. Complex minerality with elegant, sculpted tannins.

FOOD MATCHING
Kangaroo tartare, all spice, parsley, lemon, chilli, free range egg and potato crisps or Roast duck with cherries.

GRAPES/BLEND
100% Grenache Noir.

VINIFICATION
Sourced exclusively from our special Block 31 (1.7 Ha). At 210m elevation, this is the highest section of the 1946 planted bush vine Grenache, which also has the deepest sandy soil. Our small yields were hand-picked 6th of March and mechanically sorted. 50% whole berries were destemmed and placed in open fermenters, with a long, gentle maceration for a minimum of 21 days. Wild yeast ferment. No pressings are used in this wine.

MATURATION
11 months.

  • Critic tasting note: "The nose is fruity, fresh, precise and offers a nice elegant grain as well as a certain finesse. There are notes of fresh strawberry, fresh/crunchy berries and more lightly of violet combined with fine touches of cocoa, cardamom and a discreet hint of vanilla and fresh saffron (floral side). The palate is fruity, balanced and reveals minerality, good definition, a certain juiciness, a fine chiselled edge and freshness. On the palate this wine expresses juicy/fresh blackberry, juicy/fresh red berry and more lightly fresh violet notes combined with delicate touches of terroir as well as a discreet hint of sense of place, fresh tobacco and a subtle hint of fresh rosemary/sap. The tannins are very discreetly tight. Good length." - 90/100, VertdeVin
