Immerse yourself in the distinguished artistry of Domaine Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier with the 2004 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, an exceptional Burgundian wine that transcends terroir and time. Nestled in Chambolle-Musigny, this domaine stands as a testament to generations of winemaking excellence.

Producer Notes: Domaine Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier, rooted in the picturesque village of Chambolle-Musigny, boasts a storied history dating back to 1863 when the Mugnier family acquired the Château de Chambolle-Musigny. This estate is renowned for its Musigny Grand Cru, considered a benchmark for the vineyard. While closely associated with Pinot Noir from Chambolle-Musigny, the domaine also tends to 10 hectares in Nuits-Saint-Georges.

From 1950 to 1985, the vineyards were entrusted to Faiveley and Bruno Clair due to the absence of a winemaker in the family. In 1985, Frédéric Mugnier reclaimed control as leases expired. In addition to the Musigny Grand Cru, the domaine produces wines from the Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, premier crus Les Fuées and Les Amoureuses, and a village-level wine. Nuits-Saint-Georges holdings yield a Clos des Fourches premier cru and red and white premier crus from the Clos de la Maréchale vineyard—a domaine monopole.

Vineyards are cultivated without herbicides or pesticides, with only two mildew treatments per year. Grapes undergo de-stemming, and whole berries ferment in aged open wooden vats. After approximately 16 months in oak, the wines are bottled without fining or filtration.

Vineyard Notes: The Bonnes-Mares parcel is a slender strip atop the slope, covering 0.36 hectares. Planted in 1988 and 1961/1980, the vines contribute to the distinctive character of this Grand Cru.

Tasting Notes: According to the producer, Domaine Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier, "The Bonnes Mares appellation sits astride the village communes of Chambolle-Musigny and Morey-Saint-Denis, presenting characteristics intermediate to both. The influence of the Morey terroir imparts frankness, firmness, and an earthy character. This is harmoniously blended with the aromatic spectrum of red fruit berries dominating in Chambolle, coupled with mineral nuances and occasional hints of forest floor undergrowth."
