Indulge in the timeless elegance of the 1999 Domaine Jean Yves Bizot Echezeaux Grand Cru, a rare jewel from a small Burgundy wine producer with a cult following. This exquisite wine is a testament to the craftsmanship of Domaine Jean Yves Bizot, situated in the renowned Côte de Nuits.

Producer Notes: Founded in 1995, the modern incarnation of Domaine Jean Yves Bizot began when Jean Yves Bizot inherited the winery and vineyards from his family. This small estate, spanning just over three hectares, has garnered a devoted following for its meticulous production of Pinot Noir from Vosne-Romanée premier cru vineyards and the prestigious grand cru Echézeaux vineyard. Additionally, the domaine produces a limited amount of Chardonnay at the villages and Bourgogne Blanc level, with plots extending to Marsannay and Bourgogne Chapitre.

Vineyard Notes: Echezeaux, a grand cru vineyard situated above the Clos de Vougeot in Burgundy's Flagey-Echézeaux commune, captivates with its grandeur. Encompassing 37.7 hectares within the village of Flagey-Echezeaux, this climat stretches from the lower eastern end to the upper slopes, embracing the edge of Clos de Vougeot and Grands-Echézeaux. The vast vineyard, larger than most grand cru parcels, transitions seamlessly to the Côte d'Or's enchanting forests. To the north lies the Musigny vineyard, while a line of premier cru vineyards to the south distinguishes Echezeaux from the Richebourg and Romanée-Saint-Vivant vineyards.

Winemaking: With a background as a professor of oenology, Jean Yves Bizot embraces a non-interventionist winemaking philosophy. The grapes, untouched by destemming or pressing, undergo whole-cluster fermentation in conical wooden vats for 14 to 20 days, maintaining low temperatures throughout. Aging transpires in new small French oak barrels for 15 to 20 months, touching every wine from the Bourgogne Rouge to the grand cru. The absence of racking and the meticulous hand-bottling, cask by cask, without fining or filtration, reflects a commitment to authenticity. Each label proudly bears details about the individual barrel. Adding minimal to no sulphur dioxide, Bizot ensures a limited annual production, crafting fewer than 1000 cases annually.
