The island’s calcareous and sandy soils, enriched by seaweed (kelp) and sea spray carried by the Atlantic winds, impart a marine composition to the grapes, higher in iodine. The windy yet warmer climate than the mainland provides the perfect conditions for steady and consistent barrel maturation.
