The 2025 Henschke Five Shillings is a vibrant, approachable and characterful Barossa red that pays tribute to the Henschke family’s early winemaking history. First crafted in the 1950s and named after the original selling price, Five Shillings has become a much-loved Henschke classic — offering generosity, balance and immediate drinkability while reflecting the estate’s commitment to quality and regional expression.
Sourced primarily from Barossa Valley vineyards, the 2025 vintage benefited from a relatively mild growing season with steady ripening conditions. These factors delivered fruit with bright aromatics, supple tannins and excellent natural balance, making this release especially fresh and inviting.
The bouquet opens with lifted aromas of red cherry, blackberry and plum, layered with notes of spice, dried herbs and subtle earth. Hints of pepper, anise and gentle oak sit quietly in the background, enhancing complexity without dominating the fruit.
On the palate, the 2025 Five Shillings is medium-bodied, smooth and generously fruited. Juicy red and dark berry flavours flow across a soft, rounded texture, supported by fine tannins and lively acidity. Subtle savoury notes of spice and earth add depth, leading to a clean, balanced and satisfying finish.
