The 2025 Clonakilla Viognier is a refined and aromatic cool-climate expression of Viognier from the Canberra District, crafted with elegance and restraint by Clonakilla. Known for pioneering Rhône varieties in Australia, Clonakilla produces a Viognier style that emphasises freshness, texture, and perfume rather than excessive richness.
Fruit is sourced from estate vineyards in the Canberra District, where warm days and cool evenings allow Viognier to ripen slowly while retaining natural acidity and aromatic detail. The 2025 vintage delivered fruit with excellent balance and purity, resulting in a wine that is both expressive and finely structured.
In the winery, fruit was gently pressed and fermented with careful lees handling to build texture and complexity while preserving varietal freshness. A restrained approach to oak and maturation allows the wine’s floral and stone-fruit character to remain the focus.
The wine opens with lifted aromas of apricot, white peach, mandarin blossom, and honeysuckle, layered with hints of ginger, citrus zest, and subtle spice. The palate is medium-bodied and silky, balancing ripe stone fruit richness with bright acidity and a finely textured, savoury finish.
Fresh and expressive in its youth, the 2025 Clonakilla Viognier pairs beautifully with seafood, roast poultry, aromatic Asian cuisine, and soft cheeses. While approachable now, the wine also has the structure to evolve gracefully over the medium term.
