Overview
The 2025 Col Mountain Grenache is the sixth vintage of Bindi’s Heathcote Grenache project and is described by the producer as perhaps its most complex and intense release yet. Grown on the rocky, steep Col Mountain vineyard, it is made in a medium-bodied style with vibrant red fruit, savoury detail, floral fragrance and fine, chalky Grenache tannins.
Vineyard
The fruit is sourced from the rocky and steep Col Mountain vineyard in Heathcote, Victoria. Bindi considers the site particularly well suited to Grenache, with careful harvest timing critical to capturing fresh red fruit and fine tannins while avoiding excessive fruit sweetness.
Winemaking
The wine is made in a similar manner to Bindi’s Pinot Noir, using wild yeast in open fermenters with gentle handling.
Producer Tasting Notes
Bindi Winegrowers: “As is usual, the nose is beautifully fragrant with the usual raspberry and red cherry aromas. It is also savoury in a pippy way with a pretty floral lift and has a fresh, cool nature. The palate is vibrant, creamy, layered and gently grippy with the clean, grenache specific tannins giving a chalky, smooth, long finish. Another couple of years will see this wine really settled and singing.”
Producer
Bindi is a family wine producer established by Bill and Michael Dhillon in 1988. Based in Victoria’s Macedon Ranges, Bindi is best known for its small-production Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, while the Dhillon range extends the family’s winemaking approach to carefully selected sites beyond the home vineyard.
Michael Dhillon assumed full winemaking responsibility at Bindi in 1998 after working as assistant winemaker to Stuart Anderson. His experience includes vintages in Champagne, Crozes-Hermitage and Tuscany, together with extensive study of Burgundy.
