About This Wine
Produced from 100% Shiraz grown at Langhorne Creek by the Borrett family, from the 20 Rows block (65%) and the nearby Outback block (35%).
The 20 Rows Shiraz block was planted in 1962 on the Langhorne Creek flood plain, managed to receive late winter and early spring flood water from the Bremer River via channels and weirs. This historic terroir has been producing wine in this way since the mid-1800s.
The vineyard lies on deep alluvial clay loam soils, producing small, black-coloured Shiraz berries with concentrated flavour. The vines are low yielding at approximately 3–4 tons per acre and are grown on their own roots, as the region is free of phylloxera.
Langhorne Creek vineyards today extend beyond the original flood plain, with differing growing conditions. The 20 Rows vineyard remains a distinctive site within this historic area.
The Shiraz crop in 2024 was very small, resulting in concentrated flavour. The wine remains balanced and approachable, delivering full-bodied character while maintaining structure and style.
Fermentation takes place in small open vats with hand plunging to extract colour and tannins. Pressing is carried out manually using small basket presses to avoid over-extraction. The wine is crushed, fermented, matured and bottled on the property.
Producer Notes
Noon Reserve Shiraz is matured in small (300 litre) French and American oak barrels for 18 months, with approximately 30–40% new oak to add complexity and structure without dominating the fruit flavour.
