The 2024 Giant Steps Sexton Vineyard Chardonnay is a precise and site-driven expression of Yarra Valley Chardonnay, capturing the power and structure of the elevated Sexton Vineyard. Produced by Giant Steps, this single-vineyard release showcases the estate’s commitment to purity, balance, and refined winemaking.
Planted in 1997 in the cooler northern reaches of the Yarra Valley, Sexton Vineyard sits at elevation on grey clay loam soils, contributing natural acidity, concentration, and mineral tension. The 2024 vintage delivered fruit of exceptional clarity and balance, allowing full flavour development while retaining vibrant freshness.
In the winery, fruit was hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed before fermentation in French oak barrels, including a carefully judged proportion of new oak. Extended lees maturation enhanced texture and complexity, while minimal intervention preserved vineyard character and precision.
The wine opens with aromas of white peach, nectarine, and citrus blossom, layered with notes of lemon curd, subtle flint, and fine oak spice. The palate is tightly structured and mineral-driven, with crystalline acidity, layered stone fruit, and a long, chalky finish. Power and restraint are seamlessly balanced, delivering both immediate appeal and long-term ageing potential.
