The 2024 Clonakilla Hilltops Shiraz is a vibrant and expressive cool-climate Shiraz from New South Wales’ Hilltops region, crafted in Clonakilla’s elegant Rhône-inspired style. Produced by Clonakilla, this wine highlights spice, fragrance, and finesse rather than sheer weight, offering a refined interpretation of Australian Shiraz.
Fruit is sourced from elevated vineyards in the Hilltops region, where warm daytime conditions are balanced by cool nights, allowing for slow ripening and excellent flavour development while preserving freshness and acidity. The 2024 vintage delivered fruit of purity and balance, resulting in a Shiraz with aromatic lift and fine structural detail.
In the winery, fruit was hand-harvested and fermented with careful extraction to preserve perfume and texture. Maturation in French oak barrels, including a restrained proportion of new oak, added subtle spice and savoury complexity without overshadowing the fruit.
The wine opens with lifted aromas of blackberry, dark cherry, and plum, intertwined with notes of white pepper, violet, dried herbs, and gentle spice. The palate is medium-bodied and finely textured, balancing vibrant dark fruit with silky tannins and bright acidity. A long, savoury finish underscores the cool-climate elegance and drinkability of the wine.
Approachable in its youth with light decanting, the 2024 Hilltops Shiraz also possesses the balance and structure to evolve gracefully over the next 8–12+ years.
