The 2023 Yarra Yering New Territories Shiraz Touriga is a bold and imaginative expression from one of Australia’s most visionary estates. Winemaker Sarah Crowe continues to expand the boundaries of Yarra Yering’s legacy, blending the familiar depth of Shiraz with the fragrant, exotic lift of Touriga Naçional, a Portuguese variety rarely seen in Australian cool-climate vineyards.
Winemaking and Vineyard
Fruit is sourced from Yarra Yering’s estate plantings in the Yarra Valley, where gravelly loam soils and a temperate climate encourage purity and structure. The two varieties were co-fermented in small open-top fermenters, with gentle plunging to preserve aromatics and fine tannin. Maturation followed in seasoned French oak, allowing subtle integration without masking the natural fruit vibrancy.
Tasting Notes
Aromatically expressive with wild blackberry, violet, and dark cherry interlaced with spice, lavender, and graphite. The palate is medium-bodied and beautifully detailed, offering layers of juicy black fruit, savoury herbs, and mineral tension. Silky tannins and lively acidity deliver exceptional length and poise, finishing fragrant and refined.

New Territories represents Yarra Yering’s forward-looking approach—redefining what a modern Australian red can be. The Shiraz brings depth and flesh, while Touriga Naçional adds perfume, energy, and tension. Together, they form a wine that is vivid, textural, and distinctly elegant.
