R¨¦flexion Cabernets offers a more immediate, generous take on the BDX blend from the iconic Mount Mary in the Yarra Valley.
Sourced from younger estate vines and selected parcels that didn¡¯t fit stylistically with their legendary Quintet, this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec and a dash of Petit Verdot is all about approachability and drinkability now.
It¡¯s absolutely delicious, showing dark berries, graphite, bay leaf and gentle cedar from a measured touch of oak. The palate is medium-bodied and neatly shaped, with fine tannins and a clean, persistent finish.
This is a great choice if you love the classic Mount Mary feel but want something that¡¯s drinking well now - or something to see you through while the Quintet slumbers in the cellar.
In cooler seasons, our younger plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc can
sometimes fall short of the exceptional quality required for inclusion in our flaghship Quintet blend. These parcels however, still produce vibrant, expressive wines that stand proudly on their own. Crafted using the same meticulous winemaking techniques as our Quintet components, final blending decisions for R¨¦flexion are made just prior to bottling.
The 2023 R¨¦flexion is a compelling example¡ªfresh, vibrant, and immediately drinkable.
Aromatically, it bursts from the glass with lifted red fruits: cherry, plum, and redcurrant. The palate is taut, sleek, and finely structured, delivering flavours of cherry and blackcurrant layered with subtle sweet spice and smoky nuances that add complexity. Tannins are present but beautifully integrated¡ªsoft, restrained, and perfectly aligned with the wine¡¯s elegant frame and medium-bodied weight. 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot.
