Kooyong, situated on the Mornington Peninsula, is one of Australia’s leading cool-climate Pinot Noir producers. Known for single-vineyard precision and thoughtful, hands-off winemaking, Kooyong’s wines emphasise purity, texture, and a strong sense of place. Haven is one of the estate’s flagship single-vineyard bottlings — expressive, structured, and consistently among the most sought-after wines in the range.
Vineyard
The Haven vineyard sits on gently undulating slopes of red-brown clay loam over sedimentary sandstone. With meticulous viticulture, low yields, and hand harvesting, the site produces Pinot Noir of concentration, depth, and aromatic intensity. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts, with a portion of whole bunches included for lift and complexity. The wine is matured in French oak barriques (a modest percentage new) to maintain balance and finesse.
Vintage
The 2023 season on the Mornington Peninsula was cool and steady, marked by long ripening and excellent fruit health. This produced Pinot Noir of vibrant acidity, refined tannins, and beautiful aromatic clarity — a classical cool-climate vintage with excellent ageing potential.
Tasting Notes
The 2023 Kooyong Haven Pinot Noir opens with red cherry, raspberry, rose petal, and subtle autumnal notes. The palate is medium-bodied and finely structured, with layers of red berries, spice, and gentle earthy complexity supported by silky tannins. A bright mineral line and fresh acidity drive a long, poised finish. Elegant, textural, and beautifully expressive of site.
