The 2023 Kaesler Old Vine Shiraz is a rich and characterful Barossa Valley Shiraz that captures the intensity, generosity, and depth for which the region is renowned. Produced by Kaesler Wines, this wine is sourced from mature low-yielding vines, many planted decades ago, delivering concentration, structure, and classic Barossa character.
The 2023 vintage provided favourable growing conditions across the Barossa Valley, allowing for even ripening and excellent flavour development while retaining balance and freshness. The old vines contribute naturally low yields and deep root systems, resulting in fruit with intensity and complexity.
In the winery, fruit was fermented in small batches with careful extraction to preserve both richness and structure. Maturation in quality oak barrels added layers of spice, texture, and integration without overpowering the fruit.
The wine opens with expressive aromas of blackberry, dark plum, and blueberry, layered with notes of liquorice, dark chocolate, baking spice, and subtle earthy nuance. The palate is full-bodied and plush, showing concentrated dark fruit, velvety tannins, and a long, warming finish balanced by freshness and savoury depth.
Approachable in its youth with decanting, the 2023 Kaesler Old Vine Shiraz also has the structure to cellar gracefully over the next 10–15+ years, developing further complexity and tertiary character.
