Product Description

Overview

A classic village Meursault from Joseph Drouhin, the 2023 combines the appellation's characteristic generosity and silky texture with the freshness and aromatic intensity of the vintage. Chardonnay from Meursault is fermented and matured in French oak, delivering a layered white Burgundy with floral, nutty and ripe yellow-fruit character.

Vineyard

Meursault lies a few kilometres south of Beaune in the celebrated Côte de Beaune. Soils vary across the appellation, from deeper, more colourful soils around the village to lighter soils at mid-slope and pale, rocky terrain higher on the slopes.

Vintage

Joseph Drouhin describes 2023 as one of Burgundy's hottest years, with grapes harvested at perfect maturity. The resulting white wines are highly aromatic, showing yellow fruit and floral notes alongside ample texture, freshness and finesse.

Winemaking

The wine comes from grapes and musts purchased from supply partners working to Joseph Drouhin's specifications. Grapes are harvested by hand in open-work crates and carefully sorted when necessary. The fruit undergoes slow pneumatic pressing, with the final press juice separated from the free-run juice. After light settling, the juice is transferred to barrel.

Alcoholic fermentation, malolactic fermentation and ageing take place in oak barrels. Approximately 20% new oak is used, with maturation lasting 14 to 16 months in French oak.

Producer Tasting Notes

Véronique Boss-Drouhin, Joseph Drouhin: “A refined wine, well appreciated in the whole world. A beautiful golden colour and a great aromatic palette: honey, linden flower, hazelnut butter, sometimes even chamomile or hawthorn. On the palate, a silky roundness. Long on the aftertaste, with flavours of yellow plum and gingerbread.”

Critic Reviews

Wine Enthusiast: 93/100
“Everything in its place, and that's what this wine is. Perfectly ripe citrus and orchard fruits balanced with fresh honeysuckle create a refreshingly inviting nose. The palate is round and rich, vanilla coating the mouth before brisk acidity resets, introducing intense stony minerality trailing along the finish.”
