Bowen Estate Shiraz shared similar firm structure as it's sibling, the Cabernet Sauvignon. It's lifted aromas of ripe black fruits, warming spices and hint of earthy background makes it a welcoming drink with hearty food.
Still family owned and operated, this small Coonawarra vineyard has been evolving over the past 40+ years and now involves their daughter, Emma who has taken on the winemaking role whilst Doug is looking after the viticultural side of things. The Estate consists of 33 hectares of vines planted on the prized Coonawarra Terra Rosa soils. Established in 1972, the first vintage in 1975 was greeted with considerable enthusiasm.

The 2023 vintage was one in which the wines expressed varietal definition at lower baume levels. It was certainly a viticulturist year and one in which the weather maps were continually monitored. Good winter rains saw a promising start to bud burst, with cooler weather dominating a slow spring. January saw traditional warm and dry weather. Cool and damp periods dominated the ripening period through February and March. The resulting wines are expressive and fresh at lower alcohol levels.
This wine reflects the Bowen family’s strong belief of hand pruning to maximise flavour, particularly in the cooler years. The intense red fruit character is evident from start to finish. The palate is very succulent with elegant fruit flavours matched by hints of liquorish and bay leaves adding balance to the wine. American oak supports the natural tannins adding to this attractive wine which is ready to drink now and into the future.
