The 2023 Bodega Catena Zapata Adrianna Vineyard ‘White Bones’ Chardonnay is one of the world’s most distinctive and acclaimed Chardonnays, showcasing extraordinary minerality, precision, and high-altitude purity. Produced by Catena Zapata, this iconic single-vineyard wine originates from a tiny parcel within the legendary Adrianna Vineyard in Mendoza, Argentina.
Named “White Bones” after the fossilised limestone deposits found throughout the vineyard soils, this site produces Chardonnay of exceptional tension, salinity, and structural finesse. Located at nearly 1,500 metres above sea level in the foothills of the Andes, Adrianna Vineyard experiences intense sunlight and cool nighttime temperatures, allowing for slow ripening, vibrant acidity, and remarkable aromatic complexity.
The 2023 vintage delivered exceptional clarity and balance, producing a wine of precision and energy. Fruit was hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed before fermentation in French oak barrels with careful lees maturation to build texture and depth while preserving the vineyard’s striking mineral expression.
The wine reveals layered aromas of white peach, lemon zest, grapefruit, and citrus blossom intertwined with notes of crushed stone, flint, white flowers, and subtle spice. The palate is intensely focused yet beautifully textural, combining vibrant citrus and stone fruit with electric acidity and profound mineral tension. The finish is exceptionally long, saline, and precise, reflecting the unique limestone-rich terroir of White Bones.
Still youthful and tightly wound, the 2023 White Bones Chardonnay will reward patient cellaring over 10–20+ years, evolving further complexity and savoury nuance with age. Decanting is recommended if enjoyed young.
