The 2022 Tolpuddle Vineyard Chardonnay in Magnum format is a benchmark expression of Tasmanian Chardonnay, offering heightened precision, power, and longevity in large-format bottle. Produced by Tolpuddle Vineyard, this wine is internationally acclaimed for its Burgundian sensibility, combining intensity with restraint and exceptional site expression from the Coal River Valley.
Fruit is sourced exclusively from the Tolpuddle Vineyard, planted in 1988 on free-draining soils ideally suited to Chardonnay. Tasmania’s cool, dry climate and extended growing season allow for slow, even ripening, delivering fruit with pristine acidity, refined aromatics, and natural balance. The outstanding 2022 vintage produced Chardonnay of remarkable purity, structure, and mineral clarity.
In the winery, grapes were hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed before fermentation in French oak barrels, including a carefully judged proportion of new oak. Extended maturation on lees, with minimal intervention, enhanced texture, complexity, and integration while preserving the vineyard’s signature tension and drive.
The wine opens with aromas of white peach, nectarine, citrus blossom, and lemon curd, layered with notes of struck flint, hazelnut, subtle spice, and creamy brioche. The palate is tightly wound yet powerful, showing crystalline acidity, finely layered stone fruit, and a chalky, mineral core. The magnum format further amplifies freshness and balance, delivering a long, poised, and resonant finish.
While already compelling, the 2022 Tolpuddle Vineyard Chardonnay is built for long-term cellaring. In magnum, it will evolve slowly and gracefully over 10–20+ years, developing additional savoury depth, nutty complexity, and tertiary nuance.
