The 2021 Yangarra High Sands Grenache is one of Australia’s most celebrated single-vineyard Grenache expressions, sourced from ancient bush vines planted in the deep sandy soils of Blewitt Springs, McLaren Vale. Presented in magnum format, this release offers enhanced ageing potential and greater complexity over time. The 2021 vintage captures extraordinary purity, perfume, and structural finesse, cementing High Sands as a benchmark for Australian Grenache.
Vineyard and Winemaking
Fruit is sourced from dry-grown bush vines planted in 1946 on deep sands over ironstone, a site that consistently produces Grenache of exceptional aromatic lift and concentration. Organically and biodynamically farmed, the vineyard is managed with low yields to preserve site expression. Hand-harvested fruit was fermented with a significant proportion of whole bunches and wild yeasts, followed by maturation in large-format French oak and ceramic vessels to preserve purity and texture.
Tasting Notes
Highly perfumed aromas of wild raspberry, red cherry, blood orange, and rose petal unfold alongside notes of spice, dried herbs, and crushed stone. The palate is finely textured and layered, delivering vibrant red fruit, savoury complexity, and silky tannins. Bright acidity and mineral tension carry through to a long, elegant finish of remarkable precision and energy.
