The 2021 Bodega Catena Zapata Adrianna Vineyard ‘White Stones’ Chardonnay is a world-class high-altitude Chardonnay that combines remarkable purity, texture, and mineral precision. Produced by Catena Zapata, this iconic single-vineyard wine originates from the renowned Adrianna Vineyard in Mendoza, one of the most celebrated Chardonnay sites in the Southern Hemisphere.
The “White Stones” parcel is named after its unique limestone and rocky alluvial soils covered with white stones that contribute extraordinary freshness, salinity, and structural finesse. Situated at nearly 1,500 metres above sea level in the foothills of the Andes, Adrianna Vineyard experiences intense sunlight and cool nighttime temperatures, allowing for slow ripening and exceptional flavour development while retaining vibrant acidity.
The outstanding 2021 vintage delivered Chardonnay of exceptional balance and energy. Fruit was hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed before fermentation in French oak barrels, followed by careful lees maturation to build texture and complexity without compromising the wine’s crystalline mineral profile.
The wine reveals layered aromas of lemon zest, grapefruit, white peach, and citrus blossom intertwined with notes of wet stone, oyster shell, flint, and delicate spice. The palate is intensely focused yet beautifully textural, combining bright citrus and stone fruit with electric acidity and pronounced mineral tension. The finish is long, saline, and remarkably precise.
Still youthful and tightly wound, the 2021 White Stones Chardonnay will reward patient cellaring over 10–20+ years, evolving additional savoury complexity and nuance with age.
