The 2020 Balnaves The Blend is a vibrant and finely structured Coonawarra red that unites Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc in a harmonious, approachable style. Crafted from estate-grown fruit, this wine showcases the balance, purity, and regional character that define Balnaves’ long-standing reputation for quality.
Vineyard and Winemaking
Sourced from mature vineyards planted on classic terra rossa soils over limestone, the fruit was harvested at optimal ripeness to retain freshness and varietal clarity. Each component was fermented separately in small stainless steel fermenters before gentle maturation in French oak. The final blend highlights Cabernet’s structure, Merlot’s plush fruit, and Cabernet Franc’s aromatic lift, resulting in a seamless and expressive wine.
Tasting Notes
Aromas of blackcurrant, dark cherry, and plum are layered with hints of violets, dried herbs, and subtle oak spice. The palate is medium-bodied and silky, offering juicy red and black fruits, fine tannins, and bright acidity. The finish is smooth, elegant, and gently savoury, showcasing balance and drinkability.
