Founded by Dr. Michael Peterkin in 1979, Pierro has long been regarded as one of Margaret River’s benchmark Chardonnay producers. Combining meticulous viticulture with Burgundian techniques, Pierro crafts wines of extraordinary depth, texture, and precision — consistently among Australia’s most admired white wines.
Vineyard
The fruit is sourced from Pierro’s original Wilyabrup vineyard, where mature vines on gravelly loam soils produce low yields of intensely flavoured Chardonnay. The maritime climate, with its cool nights and long, gentle ripening season, ensures natural acidity and aromatic complexity.
Winemaking
The 2019 Pierro Chardonnay was whole-bunch pressed and fermented in a mix of new and seasoned French oak barriques. Partial wild fermentation and extended lees stirring added texture and richness, while full malolactic conversion brought roundness and creaminess to the mid-palate. The result is a seamless balance of fruit purity, oak integration, and mineral drive.
Vintage
2019 was a cooler, beautifully balanced vintage in Margaret River, yielding elegant, finely structured wines with superb aromatic lift and longevity.
Tasting Notes
A luminous golden hue introduces aromas of white peach, nectarine, and citrus zest, layered with hints of toasted hazelnut and flint. The palate is both generous and taut — creamy texture balanced by vibrant acidity and saline minerality. The finish is long, refined, and mouth-watering, confirming Pierro’s reputation as one of Australia’s great Chardonnays.
