The 2018 Majella The Malleea is the estate’s flagship Cabernet Shiraz blend, representing the pinnacle of Majella’s craftsmanship in Coonawarra. Produced only in outstanding vintages, The Malleea combines structure, depth, and refinement, capturing the harmony between Cabernet Sauvignon’s architectural backbone and Shiraz’s richness and generosity. The 2018 vintage stands as one of the estate’s most complete and age-worthy releases.
Vineyard and Winemaking
Fruit was sourced from Majella’s low-yielding estate vineyards planted on the region’s famed terra rossa soils over limestone. Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz were fermented separately in small batches before maturation in a high proportion of new French oak barriques for around 18–20 months. Careful blending followed, ensuring balance, integration, and long-term structure.
Tasting Notes
Deep crimson with a youthful core. Aromas of blackcurrant, dark plum, and cassis are layered with notes of cedar, graphite, dark chocolate, and spice. The palate is powerful yet composed, delivering concentrated dark fruit framed by firm, polished tannins.
