Bin 28 offers a classic expression of warm-climate Australian Shiraz¡ªripe, robust, and richly flavoured. First produced in 1959, Bin 28 takes its name from the iconic Kalimna Vineyard in the Barossa Valley, acquired by Penfolds in 1945. While the original fruit source was Kalimna, today this wine is a carefully curated multi-region, multi-vineyard blend, with the Barossa Valley remaining a key contributor.
The 2017 vintage opens with generous aromas of blackberry compote, dark plum, and black olive, followed by subtle notes of dark chocolate and warm spice. On the palate, sweet, mouth-coating tannins are seamlessly balanced by fresh acidity, creating a full and immersive experience with a long, textural finish.
Critics have praised Bin 28¡¯s ability to combine opulence with structure, showcasing the varietal¡¯s power alongside Penfolds¡¯ signature restraint. The 2017 vintage is drinking beautifully now, yet has the depth to reward medium-term cellaring.
