Overview
Majella GPL68 is the estate’s flagship Cabernet Sauvignon, produced from selected parcels of Coonawarra fruit and only the finest individual barrels. The wine honours George Patrick Lynn, who allowed his sons Brian and Anthony to establish the family vineyard at Majella in 1968.
Made entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon and matured in new French oak, the 2017 release combines concentrated black fruit, savoury detail and refined tannins with more than 20 years of cellaring potential.
Vineyard
The Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from the finest fruit grown across the Majella property. The GPL68 name commemorates both George Patrick Lynn and the vineyard’s original 1968 planting. The vines had an average age of approximately 47 years when this vintage was produced.
Winemaking
Fermentation began in a stainless-steel red wine fermenter and was completed in new French oak hogsheads. The wine then matured for a further 18 months in the same barrels.
Each barrel was assessed individually by the Majella winemaking team, with only a select number chosen for the final GPL68 blend.
Producer Tasting Notes
Colour: Rich dark magenta with a dark purple hue.
Bouquet: Aromas of ripe blackcurrants, dark berries, and a hint of savoury spice, balanced with integrated oak.
Palate: A well-balanced Cabernet Sauvignon with a perfect interplay of fruit, savouriness, and seamless oak. The tannins are ripe and exquisite, and the finish is long.

Published 16 August 2022Classically styled cabernet (dense tannins and endless flavour), with a backlog of black forest fruit that spools out long into the finish. More years in bottle will allow this to soften even further. A satisfying wine of grace and poise. Palate staining.
