The 2016 vintage of d’Arenberg The Dead Arm Shiraz is a powerful and iconic McLaren Vale red. Sourced from old, low-yielding vines affected by Eutypa (the “dead arm” disease), this wine delivers exceptional intensity and complexity.
The bouquet opens with lifted aromas of blackberry, plum, dark cherry, and mulberry, layered with hints of mocha, smoked meats, dried herbs, and earthy spice. On the palate, it is rich and full-bodied, with dense dark fruit flavours wrapped in firm tannins and savoury undertones of pepper, leather, and game. The structure is bold yet beautifully balanced, offering depth and longevity.
This vintage showcases remarkable concentration and ageing potential, a true hallmark of McLaren Vale Shiraz and d’Arenberg’s flagship style.
Critic tasting note: (2016 vintage) "Chester Osborn and his team's red wines are rarely shy creatures, and this, one of the brand's most famed wines, is no exception. Opening with a dense thicket of brambly berries imbued with Middle Eastern spices and mocha-like oak characters, this leads to a palate that's rich and round with a bit of heat from the alcohol.
