The 2015 Pegasus Bay Aged Release Pinot Noir is a mature and beautifully evolved expression of Waipara Valley Pinot Noir, showcasing the complexity and finesse that extended bottle ageing can bring to New Zealand’s finest cool-climate reds. Produced by Pegasus Bay, this special aged-release bottling reflects the estate’s philosophy of releasing wines only when they begin to reveal their full potential.

Located in North Canterbury’s Waipara Valley, Pegasus Bay benefits from a dry climate, long growing season, and limestone-rich soils that contribute to concentrated fruit, vibrant acidity, and savoury structure. The excellent 2015 vintage provided ideal conditions for slow ripening and flavour development, resulting in a Pinot Noir of depth, balance, and longevity.

In the winery, fruit was hand-harvested and fermented with careful extraction to preserve purity and texture. Maturation took place in French oak barrels, including a portion of new oak, allowing the wine to gain complexity and structural harmony while maintaining vineyard expression.

With significant bottle age, the wine now displays a layered and expressive bouquet of dark cherry, plum, and wild berry fruits, interwoven with notes of dried herbs, forest floor, spice, truffle, and subtle earthy complexity. The palate is silky yet structured, with resolved tannins, bright acidity, and a long, savoury finish that highlights both maturity and regional character.
