The 2014 Kaesler Old Vine Shiraz is a rich and powerful Barossa Valley Shiraz crafted from some of the region's historic old-vine vineyards. Produced by Kaesler Wines, this wine captures the depth, concentration, and character that have made Barossa Shiraz famous worldwide.
Kaesler's story dates back to 1893 when the estate was first established by Silesian settlers. Today, the winery is renowned for preserving a significant collection of old-vine and ancient-vine Shiraz plantings, many exceeding 50 years of age. These mature vines produce naturally low yields, resulting in fruit of exceptional flavour concentration and complexity.
The 2014 vintage in Barossa Valley delivered excellent growing conditions, producing wines with outstanding balance between fruit richness and structural integrity. The old-vine fruit harvested for this wine displays the hallmark intensity and generosity that define premium Barossa Shiraz.
Following fermentation, the wine was matured in French oak to enhance texture and complexity while allowing the vineyard character to remain the focus. The result is a classic Barossa Shiraz that combines power with refinement.
The bouquet reveals expressive aromas of blackberry, black plum, blueberry, and dark cherry, layered with notes of liquorice, dark chocolate, vanilla, cedar, and sweet baking spices. The palate is full-bodied and richly textured, with concentrated dark fruit flavours supported by velvety tannins and balanced acidity. Subtle oak integration adds further complexity, leading to a long, smooth, and persistent finish.
Now with a decade of bottle age, the 2014 Kaesler Old Vine Shiraz is entering a rewarding drinking window, where primary fruit richness is beginning to integrate with savoury tertiary nuances. It will continue to drink beautifully over the next 5–10 years.
