Fruit is sourced from Wendouree’s low-yielding estate vineyards in the Clare Valley, where elevation, cool nights, and ironstone-rich soils contribute to firm tannins, natural acidity, and savoury depth. The 2013 vintage provided excellent conditions for balanced ripening, delivering Malbec with intensity, freshness, and the structural backbone required for extended cellaring.
Winemaking follows Wendouree’s famously traditional methods. Fermentation and extraction are managed to emphasise tannin structure and longevity, with maturation in seasoned oak to avoid overt wood influence. Bottled without fining or filtration, the wine is built to evolve slowly and authentically in the cellar.
With over a decade of bottle age, the wine now shows a complex and evolving profile. Aromas of dark plum, blackberry, and mulberry are layered with notes of earth, ironstone, dried herbs, leather, and subtle savoury spice. The palate is medium- to full-bodied and firmly structured, with resolved yet still authoritative tannins, deep savoury character, and a long, drying finish that speaks to both provenance and patience.
