The 2013 Giaconda Estate Vineyard Chardonnay is a profound and age-worthy Australian Chardonnay from the iconic Giaconda estate in Beechworth, Victoria. Widely regarded as one of Australia’s greatest Chardonnay producers, Giaconda crafts wines of extraordinary precision, minerality, and longevity, with the Estate Vineyard Chardonnay standing as a benchmark of the style.
The 2013 vintage in Beechworth delivered exceptional growing conditions, allowing for slow ripening, outstanding flavour concentration, and vibrant natural acidity. Sourced entirely from the estate vineyard planted on ancient granite soils, the wine reflects the region’s cool climate and the site’s trademark mineral tension and structural precision.
In the winery, fruit was whole-bunch pressed and naturally fermented in French oak barrels before extended lees maturation. Giaconda’s minimal-intervention philosophy and meticulous élevage allow the wine to evolve slowly and gracefully over time while preserving site expression and complexity.
Now with significant bottle age, the wine reveals a deeply layered bouquet of preserved lemon, white peach, grapefruit, hazelnut, struck flint, brioche, and smoky mineral notes. Additional tertiary nuances of almond meal, honeycomb, toast, and subtle savoury complexity continue to unfold with air.
The palate is concentrated yet seamlessly balanced, combining creamy texture and depth with vibrant acidity and extraordinary mineral drive. The finish is exceptionally long, saline, and precise, showcasing the hallmark finesse and longevity that define great Giaconda Chardonnay.
