About This Wine
Clos Vougeot was established in 1110 when the Cistercian monks were donated land in the village of Vougeot, which they quickly planted with vines and maintained until the Revolution.
Today, the prestigious Clos Vougeot of 50 hectares belongs to about 80 owners. The soils range from gravel and chalk at the top of the plateau producing velvety wines, to brown, marly, clayey soils at the bottom producing stronger wines.
The vineyard has an eastern exposition with limestone and clay soils containing gravel.
Manual harvest is conducted in small 13 kg cases with careful manual sorting of each grape.
Following total or partial destemming depending on the vintage, fermentation takes place in small containers with gentle pressing. Depending on the profile of the vintage, vatting lasts 18 to 21 days.
The wine is aged for 12 to 14 months in French oak, with 45% to 60% new oak.
Producer Notes
Complex bouquet of red and black berries with spicy and slightly oaky notes. Dazzling elegance on the palate, with a perfect blend of finesse and raciness. Very good ageing potential.
About the producer
Bouchard Père et Fils is a sizable and historic Burgundy wine estate, based in Beaune. The largest vineyard owner in the Côte d'Or, it produces more than 100 wines mostly made from Pinot Noir or Chardonnay, in a range that also includes appellations in the Maconnais, Côte Chalonnaise and Beaujolais regions.
