The 2012 Rockford Basket Press Shiraz is a classic expression of traditional Barossa Valley Shiraz and one of Australia's most sought-after collectible wines. Crafted from a selection of premium vineyards across the Barossa Valley and Eden Valley, many featuring old vines ranging from 60 to well over 100 years of age, Basket Press Shiraz reflects the unique character of the region and the enduring relationships Rockford maintains with its grower families.
The outstanding 2012 vintage is widely regarded as one of the finest Barossa vintages of the decade. A near-perfect growing season delivered fruit with exceptional concentration, balance, and tannin maturity, resulting in wines of both immediate appeal and long-term cellaring potential.
True to Rockford's traditional philosophy, the wine was fermented in open slate and wooden fermenters before being pressed in traditional basket presses. Maturation took place in a combination of seasoned American and French oak, allowing the vineyard character and fruit purity to remain at the forefront.
The bouquet is rich and expressive, revealing aromas of blackberry, black plum, blueberry, and dark cherry, layered with notes of dark chocolate, liquorice, mocha, vanilla bean, cedar, and sweet baking spices.
