The 2012 Peter Lehmann Stonewell Shiraz is an exceptional release from one of the Barossa Valley’s most iconic and enduring flagship wines. Created to honour the region’s most dedicated growers, Stonewell showcases the finest low-yielding Shiraz parcels of each vintage — typically from old-vine blocks in Marananga, Greenock, Moppa and the central Barossa floor. In 2012, these vineyards produced fruit of outstanding quality, resulting in a Stonewell that ranks among the greatest of the modern era.
The 2012 season was widely celebrated in the Barossa: a cool, steady spring, followed by warm but moderate summer conditions, allowed Shiraz to develop deep colour, rich flavour concentration and beautifully ripe tannins. The resulting wines are powerful yet refined, with excellent structure and long-term cellaring potential — traits that align perfectly with the Stonewell style.
The bouquet is intense and seductive, offering aromas of blackberry, black plum, mulberry and dark cherry. Layers of licorice, dark chocolate, espresso, vanilla bean and warm spice add complexity. Subtle hints of violet, cedar, cracked pepper and roasted herbs reflect both the vineyard selection and extended maturation in fine-quality oak.
On the palate, the 2012 Stonewell Shiraz is full-bodied, richly textured and impeccably balanced. A wave of concentrated dark fruits fills the mid-palate, supported by firm yet velvety tannins that provide both structure and finesse. Notes of cocoa, mocha, clove, anise and savoury earth emerge as the wine opens, creating depth and complexity. The finish is long, powerful and harmoniously integrated — a hallmark of great Stonewell vintages.
