The 2009 Dalwhinnie Moonambel Cabernet Sauvignon is a beautifully matured, cool-climate expression from the elevated vineyards of Victoria’s Pyrenees region. Dalwhinnie has long been respected for its classic, site-driven wines, and the Moonambel Cabernet Sauvignon stands as a benchmark for Australian Cabernet made with restraint, balance and longevity.
The 2009 vintage in the Pyrenees was exceptional, delivering warm days and cool nights that allowed Cabernet Sauvignon to ripen slowly while retaining freshness and structural integrity. These conditions produced wines of purity, fine tannin structure and excellent ageing potential — qualities now beautifully realised in this mature release.
The bouquet opens with refined aromas of blackcurrant, red plum and dried cassis, layered with notes of cedar, graphite, bay leaf and dried herbs. Tertiary nuances of leather, tobacco leaf, forest floor and savoury spice reflect the wine’s evolution in bottle and add depth and complexity.
On the palate, the 2009 Moonambel Cabernet Sauvignon is medium-bodied, elegant and harmoniously structured. Fine-grained tannins have softened with age, framing flavours of mature dark fruit, black tea, cedar and savoury earth. A fresh line of acidity provides lift and length, carrying the wine through a long, composed and gently tapering finish.
