Penfolds has been synonymous with Australian fine wine since 1844, with the Bin series showcasing regional varietal excellence. First released in 1962, Bin 128 has always represented the cool-climate, spice-laden style of Coonawarra Shiraz. Its distinction lies in terroir expression rather than sheer power, offering elegance and longevity.
Vineyard
Sourced from the famous Coonawarra terra rossa strip, Bin 128 reflects the region’s hallmark structure, lifted aromatics, and firm tannins. The 2010 vintage benefited from a cool yet even ripening season, producing fruit with outstanding balance and natural acidity. Maturation occurred in French oak hogsheads, a portion of which was new, to add polish and complexity.

2010 is widely celebrated as an exceptional vintage across South Australia, and particularly strong in Coonawarra. Favorable conditions allowed for slow ripening, concentrating flavour and ensuring excellent tannin maturity. This is a vintage that produced wines of both vibrancy and depth, with long cellaring potential.
Tasting Notes
The 2010 Bin 128 Shiraz pours a deep ruby colour with purple highlights. The nose is vibrant, showing blackcurrant, mulberry, plum, and pepper spice, layered with notes of cedar, tobacco leaf, and graphite. On the palate, it is medium-bodied yet concentrated, with juicy black fruits, savoury spice, and fine-grained tannins providing definition. French oak contributes subtle vanilla and toast, while the long finish lingers with fruit purity and freshness.
