Vineyard
Situated on the famed “Plateau de Mouton” in Pauillac, the vineyard rests on deep gravelly soils with an ideal microclimate for Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2008 vintage blend is composed of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, and 4% Cabernet Franc, showcasing the château’s classic style.
Vintage
2008 was a vintage of contrasts. A cool, damp spring delayed flowering, but warm summer days and a fine September allowed grapes to ripen fully. The vintage produced wines of structure, concentration, and freshness, with Cabernet Sauvignon particularly successful in Pauillac.
Tasting Notes
The 2008 Mouton Rothschild displays an intense ruby-purple hue. Aromas of cassis, blackberry, cedar, tobacco, and graphite intertwine with notes of mocha and spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet refined, with rich fruit, polished tannins, and remarkable balance. The finish is long, elegant, and persistent—showing both power and finesse.
Label Art
The 2008 label was created by Chinese artist Xu Lei, making this vintage especially notable in the château’s series. His artwork features a ram beneath the moon, symbolizing strength, tradition, and cultural heritage, while celebrating the growing bond between Bordeaux and China.
