The 2007 Greenock Creek Roennfeldt Road Shiraz is a monumental and deeply concentrated expression from one of the Barossa Valley’s most iconic and fiercely individual single vineyards. Roennfeldt Road is revered for its ancient, low-yielding vines rooted in parched, skeletal soils — a site that consistently produces minuscule crops of intensely flavoured berries. These conditions create Shiraz of immense power, density and longevity, and the 2007 vintage is a superb example of the vineyard’s unmistakable character.
The 2007 Barossa season was warm and very dry, resulting in extremely low yields across the region. For Roennfeldt Road, these conditions further tightened concentration and tannin structure, producing fruit of extraordinary richness and vitality. The wine was matured in high-quality American oak, a hallmark of Greenock Creek’s traditional style, lending additional layers of flavour while allowing the vineyard’s profound depth to shine.
The bouquet is explosive and intense, offering aromas of blackberry liqueur, black plum, blueberry compote and mulberry. Underneath the dense fruit lie complex notes of licorice, dark chocolate, espresso roast, scorched earth and warm spice. Subtle tones of cured meat, charred oak, tar and graphite add further dimension, reflecting both the vineyard’s rugged profile and the wine’s generous maturation.
On the palate, the 2007 Roennfeldt Road Shiraz is full-bodied, saturated and commanding. Waves of dark fruit engulf the palate, framed by massive yet velvety tannins. The mid-palate is layered with cocoa, mocha, vanilla, roasted herbs and savoury spice, all carried by a core of underlying freshness that keeps the wine balanced despite its sheer scale. The finish is exceptionally long and authoritative, lingering with dark fruit, warm earth, spice and oak-derived richness.
