The 2007 Bass Phillip Crown Prince Pinot Noir is a rare and mature Gippsland Pinot Noir from one of Australia's most revered cult producers. Crafted by Bass Phillip, Crown Prince sits alongside the estate's finest wines and exemplifies the distinctive Bass Phillip philosophy of low yields, biodynamic farming, and minimal-intervention winemaking.
Sourced from South Gippsland's cool maritime climate, the vineyard benefits from a long growing season that promotes slow ripening, flavour concentration, and natural balance. The 2007 vintage produced Pinot Noir of depth, complexity, and remarkable ageing potential, qualities that have been further enhanced by nearly two decades of bottle maturation.
In the vineyard, meticulous attention to vine health and low cropping levels ensures fruit of exceptional intensity and site expression. Traditional winemaking techniques, including gentle extraction and maturation in French oak, allow the vineyard character to remain at the forefront while providing the structure necessary for long-term development.
Now fully mature, the wine reveals an intricate bouquet of dried cherry, wild strawberry, cranberry, and plum, layered with notes of forest floor, truffle, dried rose petals, exotic spice, game, and earthy undergrowth.
