Product Description

Overview

The 2006 Penfolds Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvignon 750ml is one of Australia's most iconic Cabernet Sauvignon wines, representing the pinnacle of Penfolds' multi-regional blending philosophy. First released in 1964, Bin 707 was inspired by Max Schubert's vision of creating a powerful Australian Cabernet Sauvignon capable of ageing gracefully for decades.

Named after the legendary Boeing 707 jet that helped connect Australia to the world, Bin 707 has become one of the most collectible wines in the Penfolds portfolio. The 2006 vintage showcases the concentration, structure and longevity for which this flagship Cabernet Sauvignon is renowned, offering both immediate enjoyment and exceptional cellaring potential.

Vintage Conditions

The 2006 South Australian growing season began with a dry and warm winter that encouraged excellent bud fertility and healthy vine growth. Spring conditions were favourable with minimal frost pressure, allowing for strong vineyard development across key regions including Barossa Valley, Coonawarra and Adelaide Hills.

A hot and dry January was followed by a cooler February that slowed ripening and promoted flavour development. Warm harvest conditions ensured full fruit maturity, resulting in a Cabernet Sauvignon of outstanding concentration, balance and ageing potential.

Palate

Firm, full-bodied and immensely structured, showcasing ripe black fruits, cassis, boysenberry, licorice and bitter chocolate. The wine's powerful tannin framework is complemented by savoury nuances of tobacco, soy, mint and spice, delivering exceptional depth and complexity.

Finish

Long, persistent and classically Cabernet-driven, with grainy tannins, dark fruit intensity and lingering notes of coffee, cedar and black olive.
