Origin & Heritage
A single vineyard gem from Torbreck's Descendant Vineyard in Marananga, Barossa Valley planted in 1994 from cuttings of the famed RunRig vines. This was Australia’s first Shiraz/Viognier co-fermented red, honoring Rhone tradition while showcasing Barossa finesse.
Grape Composition & Maturation
Crafted with 92% Shiraz and 8% Viognier, co-fermented and matured for 18 months in neutral French oak barrels previously used for RunRig? .
Appearance & Bouquet
Deep opaque purple with a magenta hue. The aromatics meld wild blackberry, tar, lavender, violets, and hints of dried apricot, fragrant herbs, cloves, cinnamon, nougat, and candied orange zest.
Palate & Texture
Velvety and full-bodied with rich layers of blackberry, blueberry, cassis, and spice. Accents of licorice, bacon fat, graphite, and apricot dance against fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity. The Viognier lift adds perfume and enhances balance.
Cellaring & Evolution
Originally suggested for cellaring15 years, this 05 is celebrated today with refined maturity. Community reviews average around 93 points praising its graphite, cassis, velvety tannins, and preserved life even after two decades .
Food Pairing
Perfect with hearty fare: grilled lamb, venison, slow-roasted game, or aged meat dishes. Decanting is recommended to reveal complete depth and aromatic layering.
