The 2005 Giaconda Warner Vineyard Shiraz is a rare and highly regarded cool-climate Australian Shiraz from one of the country's most acclaimed producers. Crafted by Giaconda under the guidance of legendary winemaker Rick Kinzbrunner, this wine showcases the elegance, complexity, and longevity that have made Giaconda a benchmark name in Australian fine wine.
Sourced from the renowned Warner Vineyard in Beechworth, Victoria, the wine reflects the region's elevated sites, granitic soils, and cool growing conditions. These factors contribute to a distinctive style of Shiraz that emphasises perfume, spice, mineral tension, and finesse rather than sheer power.
The excellent 2005 vintage delivered fruit of exceptional balance and concentration. Traditional winemaking techniques, including careful hand harvesting, gentle extraction, and maturation in French oak, allowed the vineyard character to remain at the forefront while providing the structure required for long-term ageing.
Now approaching two decades of bottle maturity, the wine displays an extraordinarily complex bouquet of blackberry, dark cherry, and plum, layered with cracked pepper, violets, olive tapenade, smoked meats, cedar, and earthy spice. Further evolution has introduced tertiary notes of leather, forest floor, dried herbs, and game, adding depth and intrigue.
The palate is medium- to full-bodied, beautifully balanced, and remarkably fresh for its age. Silky tannins frame layers of savoury dark fruit, mineral complexity, and cool-climate spice. The finish is long, elegant, and persistent, reflecting both the pedigree of the vineyard and Giaconda's meticulous winemaking philosophy.
