The 2003 Cullen Diana Madeline is a beautifully matured expression of Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon, crafted by one of Australia’s most revered biodynamic producers. Named in honour of the late Diana Cullen, this flagship wine reflects the finesse, purity and quiet power that define Cullen Estate’s approach. Sourced from low-yielding, dry-grown vines planted on ancient gravelly loam soils, the 2003 vintage showcases elegance and structure over sheer richness.
The 2003 season in Margaret River was warm and early, producing ripe, concentrated fruit with plush tannin profiles. Despite the warmth, Cullen’s biodynamic farming and meticulous vineyard management preserved natural acidity and freshness, resulting in a wine that has aged with remarkable grace.
In the glass, the wine opens with complex aromas of blackcurrant, red plum, mulberry, cigar box, bay leaf and graphite. Secondary notes of leather, cedar, dried herbs, tobacco leaf and earthy spice reveal the benefits of two decades in bottle. The palate is medium-bodied and finely poised, showing a beautifully resolved tannin structure that frames layers of mature dark fruit, savoury herbs and subtle oak. Hints of cocoa, graphite and gentle florals carry through a long, refined and persistent finish.
Now fully integrated yet still vibrant, the 2003 Diana Madeline demonstrates the estate’s ability to produce Cabernet blends of exceptional longevity. Its harmony, aromatic complexity and understated power make it an outstanding representation of both the vintage and the Diana Madeline lineage.
