First released in 1990, Penfolds Bin 407 was created to showcase the varietal purity of Cabernet Sauvignon in the Penfolds portfolio. Inspired by the philosophy behind Bin 707 but more approachable in style, Bin 407 consistently highlights expressive fruit, balance, and structure sourced from premium South Australian regions.
Vineyard
The 2002 vintage is drawn from a combination of vineyards across Coonawarra, Padthaway, and McLaren Vale. Each contributes to the layered style: Coonawarra adds cassis and structure, Padthaway freshness and lifted aromatics, while McLaren Vale imparts richness and warmth. The wine was matured in a mix of French and American oak hogsheads for 14 months, delivering both polish and power.

2002 was a landmark vintage for South Australia, widely considered outstanding for Cabernet Sauvignon. A cool, even growing season with slow ripening produced grapes of superb balance, vibrant acidity, and intense flavour concentration. This vintage is noted for exceptional structure and longevity.
