The 2002 Noon Winery Reserve Shiraz is a mature, cellar-worthy expression of traditional Langhorne Creek Shiraz, crafted in an uncompromising, old-school Australian style by Noon Winery. Released only in exceptional vintages, the Reserve Shiraz represents the estate’s most powerful and age-worthy wine, built for longevity rather than early approachability.
Sourced from low-yielding, mature Shiraz vines rooted in Langhorne Creek’s deep alluvial soils, the 2002 vintage benefited from a warm, even growing season that delivered outstanding fruit concentration and natural balance. Cooling evening breezes from nearby Lake Alexandrina helped preserve acidity and structure, key to the wine’s long-term ageing capacity.
In the winery, fruit was hand-harvested and traditionally fermented, followed by extended maceration to extract colour, flavour, and firm structural tannins. The wine was matured for an extended period in quality oak barrels, allowing slow integration and development without compromising varietal character.
After more than two decades of bottle age, the wine now displays a complex, fully evolved profile. Aromas of blackberry compote, dried plum, liquorice, and dark chocolate are layered with classic tertiary notes of leather, earth, smoked meat, spice, and cedar. The palate remains full-bodied and authoritative, with resolved tannins, deep savoury complexity, and a long, warming finish that speaks to both provenance and patience.
