Overview
A mature Heathcote Shiraz from one of Jasper Hill's signature vineyards. The 2001 vintage was regarded by the producer as another very good Heathcote season, producing a rich and concentrated Georgia's Paddock with sweet red fruit, spice, rounded tannins and substantial cellaring potential.
Vintage
Jasper Hill described 2001 as a very good vintage in Heathcote and a typical expression of Georgia's Paddock Shiraz, combining sweet red berries and spice with an almost thick, tongue-coating texture and rounded tannins.
Vineyard
The original Georgia's Paddock Shiraz block was planted in 1975, with additional vines planted in 1987. Approximately ten hectares of low-yielding Shiraz make this the largest component of Jasper Hill's production.
Winemaking
The Shiraz is fully destemmed and fermented with natural yeasts, remaining on skins for approximately five to six weeks before gentle pressing. It is then matured in French oak for approximately 12 months.
Producer Tasting Notes
“The 2001 vintage was again very good in Heathcote, producing another typical example of this wine ie sweet red berries and spices on the nose and palate with an almost thick, tongue coating viscosity and lovely rounded tannins. As usual, approachable from now on, particularly if decanted, but long cellaring will reward.” — Jasper Hill

“Lifted roasted coffee, red cherry, sage/ mint aromas. Well balanced wine with inky red cherry flavours, fine looseknit graphite tannins, underlying savoury oak and linear acidity. Finishes long and sweet. Buoyant and fresh.”
