Often referred to as the “Baby Grange,” Bin 389 combines the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon with the richness of Shiraz, matured in barrels that previously housed Grange. Vineyard
Fruit for the 2000 vintage was sourced from premium vineyards across South Australia, including Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, and Coonawarra. Each region contributes distinct elements: Barossa’s opulent fruit, McLaren Vale’s plush texture, and Coonawarra’s fine tannins and structure. The wine was matured for 14 months in American oak hogsheads, one-third of which were new, with the remainder seasoned Grange barrels, ensuring complexity and integration.

The 2000 vintage presented challenges due to variable weather conditions and lower yields across South Australia. However, meticulous vineyard selection and Penfolds’ blending mastery produced a Bin 389 of balance and charm.
