About This Wine
Planted in the 1950s, 1970s and 1990s, this 2.5-hectare site sits on Kimmeridgian marly limestone and blue clay with a west-facing aspect. The wine is described as energetic and mineral-rich.
About the Winery
Domaine François Raveneau is a noted Chablis producer known for some of the region’s most sought-after Chardonnay. Founded in 1948 through the merging of two family vineyard holdings, the domaine was the first in the family to bottle its own wines rather than sell fruit to other producers.
The estate farms around eight hectares across three grand cru and six premier cru sites, including Montée de Tonnerre. Most parcels sit on southwest-facing slopes planted on Kimmeridgian clay and limestone. The vines average around 30 years of age, with Montée de Tonnerre averaging around 50 years.
All grapes are hand harvested and fermented with indigenous yeasts, followed by malolactic fermentation in barrel. The wines age for extended periods, typically at least 12 months, with only a small proportion of new oak used. Bottling is carried out with fining and only occasional filtration.
