The Weather
The weather in 2003 was extraordinarily unusual. While it didn't break the 1961 record for the lowest rainfall (258 mm from April to September), 2003 followed closely with 263 mm. However, temperature records were shattered. The accumulated average daily temperatures during this period were around 3,161, compared to 3,494 in the previous hottest year (1997), but 2003 reached 3,696. Additionally, there were 49 days with temperatures above 30°C/86°F, more than triple the average of 16.
