The 1997 Domaine Leflaive Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is a rare and mature expression of one of Burgundy’s most revered white wine sites. Produced by the iconic Domaine Leflaive, this Grand Cru Chardonnay represents the power and depth of Bâtard-Montrachet combined with Leflaive’s hallmark precision and mineral clarity.
Bâtard-Montrachet lies between Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet, producing wines of greater breadth and richness than its neighbours while retaining profound structure and ageing capacity. The 1997 vintage delivered ripe fruit and early accessibility, yet in the hands of Domaine Leflaive, the wine has developed remarkable complexity and harmony with extended bottle age.
Now fully mature, the bouquet reveals layers of baked apple, preserved lemon, and white peach, interwoven with notes of hazelnut, toasted brioche, honey, and subtle smoky minerality. Tertiary nuances of almond cream and gentle spice add further depth. The palate is full-bodied and textured, with integrated acidity, a creamy yet structured mouthfeel, and a long, savoury finish that speaks to its Grand Cru pedigree.
While at or near peak maturity, well-stored bottles continue to offer compelling depth and nuance. Gentle handling and careful serving are recommended to fully appreciate its evolved aromatics and layered structure.
