The 1996 Penfolds St Henri Shiraz is a superb vintage from one of Australia’s most celebrated labels, renowned for its elegance, depth, and age-worthy character. Unlike most iconic Australian Shiraz, St Henri matures in large seasoned oak vats, highlighting varietal purity and structure rather than overt oak influence.
This vintage opens with an inviting bouquet of blackberry, mulberry, and dark cherry layered with notes of licorice, spice, leather, and earthy complexity. The palate is powerful yet refined, showcasing rich dark fruits framed by firm but polished tannins, with savoury undertones and a persistent, balanced finish. It reflects both the generosity of the 1996 season and Penfolds’ signature craftsmanship.
